The new season of HBO’s dreary robot drama Westworld will soon return for its fourth season. In the words by Jeb Bush, “Applause please.”
Everyone has their preferences when it comes to TV and movies. My personal preference is to avoid Westworld. I don’t fully understand how it’s possible to make a show about killer robots boring, but the creators of this prestigious HBO drama have accomplished just that. The series, which returns on June 26, has big actorshuge budgetsfull network support and some of the coolest visuals on TV, but it still fails to look decent dialogueWhere tracing it doesn’t feel both inconsistent and somehow as predictable. Most of the characters speak in tired platitudes and fortune cookies, and the performances are closer to what you’d expect from people in charge of a washing machine than a sympathetic humanoid escaping its miserable working conditions. It often feels like the show runners should have focused less on making something deep and instead I just tried to do something entertaining.
To each his own. In the case of my “clean”, I suggest you skip Westworld and check out these 11 bot-focused alternatives.
