AFRIFF Africa International Film Festival $5000 Animation Competition – Apply Now
Apply for the $5,000 AFRIFF Africa International Film Festival Animation Competition – The AFRIFF Africa International Film Festival and the United States Mission in Nigeria are pleased to announce this unique animation competition opportunity for animators and animation filmmakers.
This initiative continues in the United States. Mission’s excellent collaboration with AFRIFF in supporting the Nigerian creative industry. Through its funding support for Video Maker for Young Nigerians, the mission will contribute $25,000 to AFRIFF to award $5,000 each to the top five teams of young animators and animation filmmakers.

Each animation team must consist of 3-5 members and will submit an animated short to AFRIFF for review by a team of jurors appointed by AFRIFF and the US Mission. The top five animated shorts that present a unique new point of view or perspective that addresses one of the thematic areas: Climate Change, Elections and Good Governance, Women’s Empowerment, Youth Engagement, and Countering Misinformation.
These animation projects will be screened selectively during the 11th edition of AFRIFF to be held in Lagos from November 6 to 12, 2022.
1. The animation must last at least 5 minutes
2. Entries can be submitted in any language but must have English subtitles
3. The contest is open to all techniques – 2D, 3D, stop-motion and mixed.
4. Entries must be submitted by October 30, the http://filmfreeway.com/AFRIFF
5. Submissions will require a SEASONII waiver code
Five teams comprising a maximum of 5 animators will receive 5,000 USD to develop new projects or expand the existing project. The awards will be presented at the AFRIFF Globe Awards.
