UPDATE 06/10/22: Following its unveiling at last night’s Day of the Devs showcase, Monument Valley developer ustwo has shared early gameplay of its upcoming turn-based action title Desta: The Memories Between.
Desta follows the adventures of its titular hero after they return home following the death of their father. Relations with their friends and family have broken down since their last visit, but help is at hand in the form of an old magic bullet that sends them to a world between worlds when they fall asleep.
A first look at Desta’s wonderfully dreamy action was shown tonight as part of Netflix’s gaming-focused Geeked Week presentation. The title is set to come to mobile in an exclusive partnership with the streaming service later this year, with a PC and console release to follow.
ORIGINAL STORY 06/09/22: The next game from ustwo games is the turn-based action title Desta: The Memories Between.
Revealed at Summer Game Fest, the Monument Valley developer promises it will be its “deepest, most ambitious and most replayable title” yet.
The game is set to release later this year on mobile in partnership with Netflix, with a PC and console release slated for a later date.
As the titular Desta, players will explore dreamlike worlds with turn-based roguelike gameplay inspired by Hades and Into the Breach.
His world, meanwhile, is influenced by Inception, exploring themes of memory and self-reflection.
“All of the characters you meet in the game have helped Desta become who they are – there’s a lot to lose and find, which are themes I’m sure we can all relate to. We hope that players will enjoy exploring the dream worlds of Desta, and the awakening that follows,” said Danny Gray, Creative Director of ustwo games.
Meanwhile, ustwo is also releasing the Monument Valley series on PC as the Panoramic Collection.
