On June 24, 2022, Looper attended a Disney press event promoting “Thor: Love and Thunder” which included the film’s main cast as well as some of the minds behind it. To kick off the event, Chris Hemsworth shed some light on what he finds relevant in Thor after years of playing him. “Especially since Taika [Waititi] got involved, he brought out the immature, young, adolescent quality that I embody, just like Thor now, which he didn’t do in the original movies,” he explained, revealing that that makes the party animal take on Disney+’s Thor “What If…?” series is even more relevant than the usual MCU series.
For those who don’t remember or who have never given “What if…?” a try, the seventh episode of the animated series gave viewers their first taste of what Thor would be like if Loki didn’t grow up alongside him. The result is an even more carefree, fun, and childlike Thor than what we’ve seen in the live-action MCU. According to director Bryan Andrews in a 2021 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Chris Hemsworth excelled when recording dialogue for the show. “I feel like there might be some real Chris in ‘Party Thor,'” he postulated, and given Hemsworth’s recent comments, Andrew wasn’t too far off. .
“Thor: Love and Thunder” opens July 8, 2022, but if you can’t wait to see more on “What If…?” version of Thor, you might get lucky. Season 2 is coming much sooner than expected, hopefully with more Thor in tow.
