Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind

One of the most interesting aspects of Legends of Mortal Kombat: Revenge of the Scorpion and Battle of the Kingdoms That’s how the beloved ’90s franchise quickly began charting an animated universe. Granted, it seemed like Liu Kang and the other warriors recruited by Raiden had brought peace to all the realms by eliminating Shinnok/the One Being, but it seems their truce with the Elder Gods is over. Now the third chapter, Snow awning, reveals that the realms have fallen into chaos, with Kenshi trying to stop Kano and the Black Dragon. However, since other mortal combat characters will be involved, let’s dissect their roles from the first trailer.

Kenshi Seeks Revenge in Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind

In the mortal combat Lore, Kenshi was tricked by Shang Tsung into finding the Sento Sword, allowing the shapeshifting wizard to access the Well of Souls so he could become young again. This blinded Kenshi, who swore revenge on him, teaming up with Sonya’s Special Forces to hunt the Red Dragon Mage and terrorists. The film changes this by having the people of Kenshi Village enslaved and killed by the black dragon of Kano and Shang Tsung. However, it will follow the source material by having Kenshi find the sword, go blind, and exact revenge on the oppressors.

Sub-Zero will be Kenshi’s master in Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind

In lore, an older Kenshi had a connection to Scorpion, which was why he let his son, Takeda, train with the specter. But this film has younger Kenshi training with the second Sub-Zero, Kuai Liang. Fans should remember that the original died in this series due to Scorpion’s antics after Quan Chi manipulated them. It seems like all the years of war and the Lin Kuei getting used like pawns broke Kuai Liang, but he still has that sense of morality. That’s why he wants to groom Kenshi as the new Chosen One and redeem his Ice Clan.

Kano is back as king in Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind

In revenge of the scorpion, Kano apparently died when Sonya and Jax smashed his head on Shang Tsung Island. However, he is back with his mobile army, taking over villages in a twisted royal move as “King Kano”. It is unknown if Shang Tsung used magic to revive him or if the Black Dragon used excessive cybernetic enhancements, as Kano has a new faceplate and a sword for one arm. He looks more like a cyborg, so it could be the old Lin Kuei technology repurposed by Sektor and Cyrax that gave birth to Kano 2.0.

Shang Tsung is playing games again in Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind

In Battle of the Kingdoms, Liu Kang bloodily beat Shang Tsung in Outworld but showed mercy. However, it looks like Shang Tsung has escaped from prison and is back to being that conniving wizard. He can be seen in the trailer absorbing the Well of Souls, growing younger and wreaking havoc, much like the source material. It appears that in his decrepit form he served Kano, to take over when he regained full power. But fans will have to wait to see its true endgame, how the hierarchy of power changes, and what happened to all the heroes, including a reborn Raiden.

Kabal gets his due in Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind

Kabal is an iconic member of the Black Dragon, and he seems to be speeding up, using his swords to cut people. Fans should be happy with that, especially since her character was quickly removed in the latest mortal combat live action movie. There, Liu Kang used the Flaming Dragon Fatality on Kabal, but in this anime, Kabal seems to have more power to cause bloodshed, furthering the trust Kano had in him in the past.

Kobra joins the fray in Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind

Kobra debuted in Deception as a brawler, portraying himself as a mixture of Liu Kang and street fighters Ryu and Ken. He was a fan favorite and Kabal supported him as an enforcer while he led the Black Dragon. This movie offers him the same role on Team Kano, with Kobra jumping around, stomping on innocent people, and basking in the crimson glow like a true fanboy.

Kira’s Kick in Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind

Kira was also featured in Deception as a member of Black Dragon, and this movie seems to honor his bloodthirsty ways. She slices innocent people with her signature blades, living up to the source material as a mix of Kano and Sonya. While Kira praises Kano, it will be interesting to see if she remains a team player, as she is generally brash. Still, she teams up with Kabal to take down Kenshi, so it looks like she’ll be lining up.

Earthquake shakes landscape in Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind

Tremor, introduced in MKX, is a Bane-like rogue who usually acts like an Earth elemental. It can cause earthquakes, rock formations, and throw rocks at people. The Quake can even harness lava energy deep within the planet’s surface, which seems to be the form he will take when he attempts to assassinate Kenshi. Tremor also tells the blind swordsman that he’s nothing without his sword, which means he’ll have more personality than in the game.

No Face makes its fiery debut in Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind

No Face is a Black Dragon explosives expert, only appearing in the Special Forces game rather than the fighting series. There, Kano recruited him, but the pyro enthusiast was killed by Jax. Here, the scarred man will take on a similar terrorist role, with footage showing him blowing up a village as he walks away. It’s an intimidating plan, proving that Kano’s army will be multi-dimensional and more cerebral.

Erron Black’s firing on all cylinders in Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind

Erron Black is an Earth cowboy who got his start in MKX. He is one of the most evil mercenaries, offering his services to Outworld and the Black Dragon. He’s become a fan favorite due to his cool looks, badass attitude, and knack for betrayal, so it’ll be interesting to watch him swear loyalty to an employer. Still, Erron cannot be underestimated, as he has a variety of bombs and traps.

Ferra and Torr are surprise additions to Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind

Ferra is a young girl with a blade atop the giant male, Torr, who debuted in MKX. The pair worked as bodyguards for Kotal Khan when he ran Outworld, but this movie changes things up by having them as lackeys for Kano. Swinging blades and fighting together like the game, they’re part of her madmax– like a legion in this apocalyptic wasteland, indicating once again how much muscle he will have. They had a friendly relationship in MKX as misunderstood “brothers and sisters” who have been armed, but it seems to be cleaned up to make them real bad guys.

To see all of these characters, Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind will be available on digital on October 9 and will be released on 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 11.
