Snow White live-action remake release date, cast, synopsis and more

Disney Animation’s OG is about to make its triumphant return! We are, of course, talking about the most beautiful of them, Snow White, who became the first Disney princess in 1937 with the release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and which is set to make a splash in theaters once again over eight decades later.

Following the success of Disney’s recent live-action adaptations of its classic animated films, White as snow is getting a modern narrative as part of the next wave of live-action House of Mouse remakes.

This modern new tale from director Marc Webb and writer Greta Gerwig will put a fresh spin on the modern classic with updated versions of the film’s iconic characters and songs – with a sprinkling of new additions thrown in for good measure!

The White as snow The live-action remake hits theaters in 2024, and we’ve rounded up everything you need to know about the movie, including its release date, cast, and more.

Snow White live-action remake release date

As confirmed by Disney following its presentation at D23, White as snow will be released on March 22, 2024, just months after the 86th anniversary of the original animated feature that inspired the live-action remake. The film’s spring release should make it a hit for families looking for a new movie to enjoy over spring break and will lead to what will be a very busy year for Disney.

In addition to publishing his White as snow remake in 2024, Disney will also release Mufasa: The Lion King in 2024 as well as a pair of new Pixar movies and a few new Marvel Studios movies!

Will the live-action remake of Snow White be released in theaters or on Disney+?

Although Disney has chosen to release some of its new movies directly on Disney+, as seen most recently with its live-action Pinocchio redo, the current plan is for the White as snow live-action remake to be released in theaters. While the film will open in theaters, it will still eventually come to Disney+ for subscribers to enjoy, but that will come after the film’s theatrical release.

Will the Snow White remake be a musical?

While Disney chose to remove musical components from some of its live-action remakes such as the 2020s Mulana, the next White as snow remake will be a musical! As revealed by Rachel Zegler at Disney’s D23 event in September 2022, the film will feature a mix of songs from the original film as well as new songs written for the upcoming film.

Cast of Snow White (2024)

Leading the cast in the film’s title role is Rachel Zegler (West Side Story). She will be joined by Gal Gadot (wonder woman) as the Evil Queen and Tony-winning Andrew Burnap, who joined the cast as a new character named Jonathan. So far, there have only been three major casting announcements for the film and more announcements are still expected to be made now that the film is getting closer to its release.

Summary of Snow White (2024)

The current synopsis of the next Disney White as snow remake doesn’t offer much context as to what fans can expect from the film which is currently being teased as a “live-action adaptation of the 1937 Disney animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” While the film follows the plot of Disney’s original animated film, fans should expect the following, as the 1937 film’s synopsis teases:

Exiled to the dangerous forest by her wicked stepmother, a princess is rescued by seven dwarf miners who bring her into their home.

Trailer Snow White (2024)

While the images of the next Disney film White as snow live-action remake was screened at D23 in September, no official footage from the film has yet been released to the general public. This isn’t uncommon as Disney is known for exclusive first looks at people attending events such as D23 only to have fans around the world waiting months before the first teasers and trailers arrive.

Given White as snow will be released in 2024, we imagine the trailer or first teaser might not arrive until 2023.
