Ben Schwartz shares his favorite Sonic character

Turns out the voice actor who plays Sonic in the upcoming video game movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, has a favorite video game character – and surprisingly, it’s not Sonic. Ben Schwartz, who plays the legendary blue character in the upcoming family film, revealed to us in an interview that despite his love for SEGA’s mascot, another anthropomorphic animal holds his heart.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2, based on SEGA’s hit video game franchise, sees our blue hero meet new faces that longtime fans of the games know all too well. Knuckles (Idris Elba) and Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) are introduced in the upcoming action flick and prove to be standout features in the charming video game adaptation. When asked which characters he’d like to join Tails, Knuckles and Sonic in future cinematic sequels, Schwartz told The Digital Fix many possibilities before revealing his favorite figure in the beloved platformer franchise – Big the Cat. .

“There are so many different characters on the floor of Sonic, and there are also versions of Sonic that are pretty cool. We can add a Metal Sonic in there; there are all kinds of things that could be fun, like an Amy Rose or if we ever get to introduce Shadow or something like that.

“Oh, and I think Christopher Walken should voice them all,” he joked. “We just have a very unique VO thing. Bobcat Goldthwait from the Police Academy should be there too. When we suggested Goldthwait would make a great fat cat, Schwartz agreed and said, “Oh! By the way, Big the Cat, my favorite character.

Big the Cat is the friendly purple feline who was first introduced to the franchise in the 1998 video game Sonic Adventure. With a friendly attitude and unwavering devotion to his friends (especially Froggy), he’s easy to relate to. why Schwartz would hold the cartoon character in such high regard. However, while Big the Cat holds a firm place in the actor’s heart, Schwartz also clarified his reverence and love for Sonic.

“For me, growing up, you know, playing video games all my life, but also being introduced to video games in the late 80s, early 90s, Sonic for me is one of the characters in most iconic video games of all time,” he explained. “So the idea that I have to voice this character who has had such an amazing lineage and has such great VO actors on the way up to here, it’s amazing.”

Only time will tell who will join Sonic next in his future films. However, given that Big the Cat is a longtime fan favorite as well as Schwartz’s pick, we may soon see Cat-powered body slams on the big screen.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 hits theaters April 1 in the UK and April 8 in the US.
