A 3D animation shows the inner workings of an AR-15

A YouTuber this week posted a video of the internal mechanics behind the often polarizing AR-15 rifle.

The video, by explaining exactly how the rifle works, shows why the gun is an effective and ultimately dangerous weapon.

“I’ve always loved animation and illustrating how things work,” says designer and 3D animator Matt Rittman in his biography. “I’m particularly interested in firearms and anything mechanical. My goal for this channel is to provide 3D animations that are easy to understand and how it works. »

Rittman’s AR-15 render is one of many videos on the gun mechanics.

The The AR-15 was first designed as a military rifle in the late 1950s. Its manufacturer, ArmaLite, began producing the firearm before selling the manufacturing rights to Colt.

For more than five decades, the AR-15 has been an enthusiast favorite. A common iteration of the rifle, the M-16, has long been used by the military. And according to NRPit even appeared once in a Sears catalog.

“The National Shooting Sports Foundation estimates that there are approximately 5 to 10 million AR-15 rifles owned in the United States, a small fraction of the approximately 300 million firearms owned by Americans,” CNBC reported.

But the AR-15 also has a dark history. The rifle was involved in 11 mass shootings between 2012 and April 2022.

Eighteen-year-old Salvador Ramos deployed a AR-15 style rifle in the murder of 19 students and two teachers at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas.
